Message Replied To ========== RE: Driskel & the coaching staff Had Driskel simply twisted his ankle, his name perhaps would not be so taboo in Gator Nation today. I have a feeling people feel awkward about bashing a player that is completely out of the picture (and injured and all that stuffs). I am not bashing, per se, just pointing out that it was not unreasonable for people to be calling him to get benched, screaming expletives in his direction and bitterly recalling (and reciting) memories of all his famous screw-ups, immediately following the pick-six yesterday. This is the QB who:
I mean c'mon, that pick-six was precisely the poor-decision making, almost a carbon copy, of the one that lost us the game two weeks ago. Two weeks ago. In that one play, the guy simply demonstrated his inability to learn from his (very recent) mistakes. I think people keep returning to the bias that he is supposedly a great QB with a huge ceiling who just happens to be struggling, instead of, for instance, the reality that he is a mediocre QB who has had a couple good games. When people feel sad, I honestly think they feel sad for his potential as a great QB instead of his production as an actual QB. I can't think of any QB who played this poorly and grew into a solid QB. Against Georgia, Muschamp said he basically forgave Driskel's horrible game because he was "trying to make plays"; you can't fault a kid trying to make plays. That logic that works when, for instance, you occasionally do make plays. Well, no. It only works when the most of your risk-taking overwhelmingly results in positive plays. If most of your risk-taking results in an equal number of positive and negative plays, then stop taking risks. In Driskel's case, it was nearly always negative. You know what they call those QBs? Crappy. There is no spin on crappy. Why haven't the coaches done ANYTHING offensively in nearly two seasons with this kid? The worst part of all this, for me, is that Murphy is not the answer. In fact, no QB on our rooster is. We are completely bare at QB. We have no talent at QB. We have very limited talent at WR. How is it, at the University of Florida, the flagship university in the talent-rich state of Florida, we can't recruit offensive talent? It's been almost 10 years since Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow committed to the Gators, yo. Does Muschamp only go on recruiting visits to defensive talent? I'm serious. According to Scout's rankings, 12 of the top 17 offensive recruits left the state of Florida last year. As in, they preferred completely leaving the state over playing for the Gators. That is a fail. ============================== gets his fibula snapped giving his best effort for your gators, and will now miss the rest of the season and who knows what else as a result, kiiiiiiiiinda makes this post seem like cheap bashing. Let it go. The kid did his best. I, for one, thought he was doing the best with what he has. He does not fit your offensive system, but was the best talent you had at the position, and he won the job. |
