The naysayers, doomsdayers, and darkclouders once again were out in force in year 2 of ESD.Woe is Dan Mullen, he who beat LSU and F$U.
Well, SOS won SIX SEC championships and a NC despite the fiction spinning about his failure to recruit well. How much did it matter to SOS? Did the woe-is-me-ers cry a river at the GA dome those 5 times UF won? about recruiting? Let me guess. NO. How many have ALL OTHER UF COACHES won? SEC wise that is? But damn, his recruiting. I put one Mudlizarian (Mudlizardite?) on lifetime ignore over his libel of the Greatest Gator (No apology to Timmy).
Meyer won the rare Quinela-titles in both recruiting and on the field (look up Quinela).
I say these things because I spoke to a friend whose child was recruited by both MacelShark and Mullen. UF was badly badly outrecruited before DM arrived with this one kid. ONE! Now add that to say 10 and dear lord. I'd venture to say dozens of relationships damaged. Worse than some of you (except maybe 3rd Ward) would ever imagine.
My friend said over and over - relationships are not built overnight. AND WHEN YOU GET TO THE SCHOOL on a recruiting trip ... well we have all heard and read the stories about sockless Jim.
So DM arrives and revamps S and C. Changes the culture and attitude of the admin and the players (BUT not some of the fans). Changes the offense and the stats show it. Massive change from total #badword# product on the field to the cusp of 10 wins. Recruiting is but one grail.
I listened to horror story after horror story about the mess before DM. You can't undo that. Now you let a kid tell those stories to others on a trip to say ... UT or scUM and it starts hardening into concrete - kids post on Finsta (look it up old timers) and next thing you know, a pipeline at a school or a coch is ruined. FINSTA!
The dad I spoke to said his kid basically ignored the 2017 UF entreaties, saying it 'sounded desperate' last season.
Mullen is overcoming 1-3 years of horrible and non-existent relationship building with moms, grandparents, and dads. On top of changing a culture, an offense, coaches, and recruiting on top of that. One mom was really pissed about a golf cart incident- had not heard about that until now.
So for you broken record, sky is falling types it looks like DM's work on your culture, your attitude, you 'in all kinds of weather' fandom needs some coaching up.
Who knows what will happen. I do know FOR A FACT that a few guys on here said Malik Davis wouldn't amount to much.
All I am asking is that for some of you the Warchant-like incessant (and predictable) bitching about recruiting woes - maybe give us regular guys some slack. Predictions are often wrong in the long term for a school you love as much as I do. I just don't want Stricklin to dig a pit of misery next to the Fball facility.
I will leave the hand wringing about 'losing' Sanders to others. I can't pull my hair out over Elam --just yet - b/c at my age it ain't growing back and I need what I have left. The Lakeland pipeline, the flips of 2 UM's and 1 F$U - that is just fine with me. 2020 will be here pretty soon. CELEBRATE these. Hungary will probably fret over -- and post more by a factor of 4 - about not landing Quashon or Ika. Allow me to do my best whitebread Lawrence Wright ..ahem ... if you are not a gator, you must be gatorbait.
Yes, you can say what you want. I put a bunch of the worst on ignore b/c I just couldn't handle the onslaught of negativity. Nattering Nabobs of Negativity as it were.
You can complain. You can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses. I'm rejoicing because there are better days ahead after this wonderful season compared to the last. And damn beating F$U just makes life so much sweeter each morning!
