I know you hold everything Steve near and dear, but that's just too much. I would have to say that I didn't take second fiddle to anyone as a fan of SOS while he was here. I believed that you had to take the whole package if you wanted the "evil genius" as your HBC...all these folks that nitpicked every thing he did or said...three touchdown victories looked "sloppy" to some...or they wished he'd kept his mouth shut about this that or the other...I was as much an SOS apologist as anyone. He was honest, didn't engage in coach speak...he was a heLL of a lot of fun to have leading the Orange and Blue...we owe him a TON. Florida Football before and after tells a HUGE part of the story (they had it in the football media guide) pre-SOS and the SOS years...I'm not arguing that Gator fans and UF in general owe him a HUGE debt of gratitude...but it seems a bit sycophantic to say he owes UF NOTHING...I mean...NOTHING??? REALLY NOTHING??? Abosolutely NOTHING?? I'd have to strongly disagree with you there...it was the stage of all his glory...his mythology was created at Florida...nothing he does at USC or what he did at Duke or as a Bandit or a player for the 49ers or the Bucs will come close to matching his UF stage as a player and coach not to mention he met his wife and I'm assuming best friends at UF...I would venture to say that UF owes him big time, but it's a 50/50 thing in my mind. I believe it's a privilege to be a Gator no matter who you are...a corporate titan, a tycoon, a school teacher, a great football coach...we all owe UF. I'll cheer his coming to UF for the Nat'l Title celebration...I think that's great of him to do...it'd be crass to not honor him then. But I'm definitely one that sees more ego, a littel more selfishness and pettiness in his showing up at an Eastern rival SC than I would have liked to believe...
