"Message boarding 101" |
|
Message boards are not democracies. They are not governed by the Constitution. Free speech does not apply. Nobody has a right to say anything on a message board that is moderated, no matter what it is. Moderators put themselves in the line of fire every day, and moderators catch #badword# from people on both sides of every debate... political, economic, sociological, religious, wine discussions, food discussions, pet discussions, sports, message board philosophy. All of it. Someone is always emailing screaming about censorship and someone is always complaining about how the mod is a shill for the other side. The fact is, the mods here do this because they love the community... and what gets old is how people continually complain about how the moderation sucks but they stick around and continue to break the rules set forth. I respect KGA's position below... it isn't often that a person can admit that they disagree with a moderator yet can "self ban" themselves in order to respect the moderator. This has absolutely nothing to do with the content of the debate that has gone on between you and anybody else... I'm just a moderator of a board who feels the pain of those who have to get in between this stuff. In short, what I always tell people on VTTW when they disagree with my moderating techniques... starting a board is cheap and easy these days. Running one is hard. Anybody who thinks differently ought to try it for a little while. JMHO, of course. |
