KILLER GATOR ATTACK (71.101.66.153) on 9/24/2006 - 3:40 p.m. says: ( 126 views )

"A sign of the times, I guess.... "

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 9/24/2006 - 3:55 p.m.)

Society is getting more vulgar and selfish and abusive with every passing day, and I guess it's inevitable that some of the worst would bleed into even the Gator family. You can see it's effect right here on the VS sometimes, though I'll probably get crap for saying that.

That said, I really think this last "booing" is misinterpreted. It definitely wasn't aimed at Chris, and I don't think it was any real displeasure with Meyer. It was more like the spontaneous result of boos you get when the security officer takes away the bouncing beachball! Or back in the day when a stadium section would kill "the wave". People were excited and wanted to see Tebow finish off what he started, and Meyer took the bouncing beachball away!!

It really was a dumb decision on Coach's part, IMO. I think Gator fans have for the most part handled Chris' incumbency and the wait for Tebow very well, and the only controversy is that stirred up by the media that is either biased or just looking to cause a flap. But there were no real great benefits to be achieved by pulling Tebow and inserting Leak at the end of those drives. If Tebow fails to score, well, freshman learning curve, and it would further illustrate why Leak is our starter.  If Leak replaces him and scores, it's just ho-hum, another Leak touchdown. But if Leak screws up badly, as happened twice at the end of impressive Tebow drives, then not only did fans get the bouncing Tebow beachball taken away from them before the end of the drive, but Leak and the coaches get blamed for squandering those opportunities Tebow got us into. It was a no-win situation to yank Tebow and play Leak in those situations unless Meyer was just trying to pad Chris's stats for the Heismann (oops, that backfired!)

For the life of me, I can't really think of any other situations I've seen where coaches pull a quarterback (twice) out of a long drive he's lead the team on, just to let another quarterback finish it off. If the "replacement" QB screws up, there's BOUND to be flack for not letting the guy who took them down the field finish it off, no matter how much the fans love the QB who came in to replace him.
