"Follow Up From Before: Bowden's Dockett Comments Today..."

When the question was first asked about why Dockett was being cut off from the media this week, Bowden basically just shook off the question. But then completely unsolicited, he added what turned out to be far and away his most animated comments from his press conference. It was honestly the most animated and physically active I've seen him in awhile. And what was further curious is that his tone and tenor of the press conference was so subdued do to the AD situation and questions about the pathetic NCState loss. I'm paraphrasing his comments, but these will be pretty close. So Bowden goes on to say... "you know that Dockett is a different kind of guy. He plays jokes on you. He is a practical joker. He likes to get at you for no reason. He's made me so mad. He makes me so mad sometimes I want to spank him. And if he wasn't so big, I would have spanked him in the past, you know. I could see him going up to a player on the ground (here is where Bowden actually pushed his folding chair back, turned in his seat, and very loudly stomped the stage... shaking the whole floor and backdrop) and stomp the ground by his hand like that just to have fun. And I can see him grabbing someone by the leg and (here is where Bowden wraps his arms around himself giving himself a bear hug and shakes himself violently) shake them real fast like this but not really applying pressure and hurt him. That's just something he would do, and look at you in the eye and get your attention." Bowden basically acted out exactly what has been alleged of Dockett's actions all along. I was dumbfounded he would say and do this completely unsolicited under such media scrutiny as was today's press conference. Of course, not one of the two dozen plus reporters in the room followed this up with any further questions. Not one question as to why Bowden was so firm in his denial immediately after the incident and he didn't see anything, and now he readily admits this is something Dockett is prone to do. When earlier in the press conference the question was raised about Dockett's "alleged" bragging 'Did you see what I did to Earnest Graham?', Bowden basically rebuked the reporter's question and returned the question back at him. He questioned the authenticity of the lockerroom comments and what Dockett could have been implying. Like I said, I was just incredulous watching this go down. I know this issue is now a year old and long since swept under the carpet (at least by FSU fans), but his comments reopened the whole chapter in my book. Furthermore, if any of the respected columnists that were in the room (Bob Thomas, Mike Bianchi, Brent Kallstead, etc.) don't at least make mention of this sometime during the week in their FSU notes, they are doing their readers a big disservice. Dockett still plays for FSU. Graham still plays for UF. Bowden is still the FSU coach. Until all the parties involved leave their respective universities, it is still IMO very much an issue.
