During the game, GatorDJ posted this. Truer words have never been spoken or, in this instance, typed into cyberspace. We are what we are.
Let's examine that a bit closer, shall we?
We are a team with too much firepower to leave so many points on the field. We are an offense whose coordinator periodically leaves you scratching your head or, in many instances, mumbling profanity under your breath. We are a rushing attack that lacks any consistent punch, especially when we're so banged up. We are a special teams unit that can't make a 30-yard FG. We are a defense that tends, from time to time, to play it "safe" when protecting a lead.
What else are we on this fine November afternoon?
We are victorious over our arch-rivals from clown town. We are on a two-game win streak versus the 'Noles in Tallahassee. Even overlooking the "Swindle in the Swamp," we've beaten FSU three straight times for the first time since I was a ninth-grader. We're back to national prominence as the sun continues to set on Bobby's dynasty.
We've beaten FSU, Georgia, and Tennessee in consecutive seasons. We went on the road to beat the Vols and Seminoles for the first time since 1984. We have eleven wins for only the third time in school history. We have eleven regular season wins for only the second time in school history.
We are champs of the SEC's eastern division. We are seven days away from playing for the most coveted conference championship in college football. We are, even when the victim of our own miscues, capable of coming through in the clutch. We are led by a senior quarterback whose calmness under fire almost always makes you forget those miscues, especially those for which he's responsible.
We are already watching the future unfold in a freshman QB phenom who stands to become the most dangerous dual-threat in the NCAA. We are a program with ever-increasing clout in national recruiting. We have a coaching staff, an athletic program, and an academic institution that rightly attracts top-drawer playmakers like Percy Harvin.
We are a defensive secondary that refuses to play "down" to the expectations of outsiders. We are a defensive coaching staff whose coordinators know when to attack, and who aren't afraid to let our athletes make big plays. We are a defensive line that refused to slow despite injuries and the off-field losses of key players. We have a defense that has almost always rescued a struggling offense.
We are led by a head coach who, despite having most of his career ahead of him, has already returned Florida to SEC and BCS title contention. We are a team that definitely took back the Swamp, having gone 13-0 during the past two seasons. We have a leader who embraces the legacy of Steve Spurrier, and who truly asipres to duplicate (or exceed) his success during the 1990's.
It shouldn't have been so close as 21-14. All things considered though, you better believe I'll take it. Go Gators! (And go Billy D and company - beat those Jayhawks tonight!!)
