I've long said like so many others that the BCS is a joke. I've not worried one iota about UF's chances of playing Ohio State largely because it is beyond UF's control. What was in UF's control was beating FSU. Done. Now what is left in their control is beating Arkansas. Not easy by any means but possible since it will be settled on the field and not by the vote of some bias coach, computer, or some journalist who's never seen UF play. Again, given that crappy system I have long stopped giving a damn about it and care ONLY now about trying to win an SEC Title.
Having said all that, I am sick to bleeping death of hearing some, not all, but some FSU fans saying that UF doesn't have the right to feel gilted (although I for one at least don't) with regard to the BCS since the '96 Title was won via a rematch. Of course it is predictable that FSU fans just say that is the way it happened but now we have journalists saying it. To wit: Below is an excerpt from The Florida Times Union's Gene Frenette from the 11/25/06 edition:

Meyer's No. 4-ranked Gators have only a lukewarm claim on being Ohio State's opponent in the title game. They've looked a notch below an elite team all year, and UF also needs a Southern Cal loss to gain entry. Yet even that may not be enough to surpass Michigan, which is hard for anyone to deny being the nation's second-best team based on its overall results.
If Florida finishes 12-1 and there's a Michigan-Ohio State sequel, the Gators should just remain silent. After all, wasn't it just a decade ago that Florida won its only national title by getting a rematch with Florida State?
Florida signed off a long time ago on this imperfect process. If you didn't cry when the chips fell your way, then be man enough to accept it if the system yields a different result....

This is such bullsh_t! These two situations are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Isn't is his job to know that the BCS didn't exist back then? It wasn't just decided that at the end of the season after FSU won the meeting in Tally 24-21 that the two teams should play again in the Sugar Bowl to decide the National Championship. After losing in Tally being previously ranked #1, UF fell to #4 while FSU moved to #1. In the wake of #3 Nebraska losing to Texas in the Big XII Title game and UF beating Bama in the SEC Title game the Sugar Bowl had no choice but to take UF to play FSU who was already set to play in the Sugar Bowl. Everybody expected Nebraska to have been FSU's opponent but the fact they were not was not VOTED upon. It was SETTLED ON THE FIELD via the Big XII and SEC Title games respectively. The result of those two games dictated that UF would play FSU again. So after #3 Nebraska lost and #4 UF won, UF moved up to #3 entering the Sugar Bowl to play #1 FSU. #2 Arizona State COULD have won it all had they won the Rose Bowl over #4 Ohio State and had #3 UF beat #1 FSU. Well only half of that deal happened. Ohio State beat Arizona State. With #2 losing the night before, for all intents and purposes UF had moved up to #2 and Ohio State moved up to #3 while FSU remained at #1. After UF throttled FSU 52-20 in the bowl game they were slated to play each other in rather than the game that had some system say, "Ok you two teams play again and the winner will win the NC", the result ended up determining the National Championship because of results SETTLED ON THE FIELD and not due to some system. Bottom line UF won the NC in '96 due to on the field results some of which were games UF was involved with and some not but ALL of it was on the field. Whoever this system ultimately decides will play Ohio State, somebody is getting screwed no matter who the system picks. Nobody got screwed in '96. Go ahead somebody....anybody. Just try and argue that. You can't. End of story.
