UGA delenda est!

losing 15 of 17 has changed a lot of UGA fans, even some of the most positive, upbeat fans.

That's the truth. In this day and age, I go into every game thinking that we're going to win. Whether it's Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama, Clemson etc., I'll go into every one of them thinking that we will find a way to win in the end. Even if the team is currently better than we are, I will still be confident in our players and coaches ability to pull us through. In 2003, I thought we'd beat LSU both times we played them. In 2004, I thought we'd beat Auburn. This year, even after the Kentucky loss, I never quit believing that we'd win the rest of our games. And this isn't because I'm a total UGA homer who gives nobody else respect. I wasn't always like this during the Goff and Donnan eras. It's because in this day and age, I know that we have the talent and coaching to beat anyone.

But then there's the Florida game. I'm simply never comfortable when it comes to this game. They could be winless, banged up with injuries and starting nothing but true freshmen and I still wouldn't feel confident about our chances of beating them. In the week building up to this game, something simply changes about us. As I've said before, I love college football more than almost anything, but I hate our game with them. I didn't start following the dawgs until '90, so them dominating us is all that I've ever known. The good memories that I have in the series (Robert Edwards running down the sidelines in '97, Fred Gibson stretching out to catch the game clinching touchdown in '04) are seriously weighed down by the bad ones (Garrison Hearst getting shutdown in '92, Anthone Lott's timeout negating our last second timeout in '93, Spurrier pouring it on at Sanford in '95, Jasper's late fumble turning a close game into a route in '99, Terrence Edwards dropping a wide-open pass that could have saved the game and our national hopes in '02, failing to score touchdowns inside the redzone in '03, Tereshinski running a vanilla offense while Shockley watched from the sideline in '05, a questionable face mask penalty killing any chance of us mounting a game tying drive in '06).

Who knows if having the game as a regular home-home or not allowing either team to have a bye before the game would change anything, but I think we blew our best chance to change the tempo of the series during the Ron Zook era. We had finally become the better program again, yet we still lost two out of three against them. Beating them all three of those years could have changed everyone's attitude and gave our players fans a little more swagger. Meyer looks to be really turning things around, so we've really got our work cut out for us now. I have a feeling that we will get more and more bad UGA-UF memories in the coming years.
