I think the class ranking by ESPN was mostly political and we should just let it go.
Southern Cal signed 18 players. If we put our top 18 against their top 18, we're about even. According to ESPN's numbers, we're even better.
USC: 18 players, 1412 pts.
UF: top 18 players, 1448 pts
Then we sign 9 more players. These 9 players are high quality, but not they bring our 'average' down. Kind of like playing the Citadel brought down Auburns strength of schedule in 2004 or something.
To explain how ESPN is interpreting 'average', think of a Ferrari's engine. It's the most expensive part of the car. USC bought a Ferrari engine today. Florida bought an entire Ferrari, which included the engine.
ESPN basically says that our Ferrari's body frame, italian leather seating, precision handling system and suspension system brings down the average value of the car we bought.
ESPN smokes crack rocks and feeds their kids paint chips.
