They came back, for another piece of the net, and history, commradarie and each other. They came back for this.

Last April Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Corey Brewer stood atop the college basketball world as national champions. Each with a clear view of his future as a first round pick in the NBA. Yet rather than reach for the money they chose to go back to Gainesville to try to summit all over again.

It was a bold decision of TEAM over self and friendship over fortune. And it was risky. What about injury or....apathy, or the simplest danger....failure.

They came back anyway. Trying to be the first to repeat since Duke in 1992 and just the second since 1973; and to become the first starting 5 to do it in the history of their game.

To get there Florida played 19 elimination games over the last 2 seasons. They won them all.

Of his starting 5 Billy Donovan offered these quick summaries:

AL HORFORD -- defends and rebounds

LEE HUMPHREY -- defends and shoots

TAUREAN GREEN -- defends and runs the team

COREY BREWER -- defends and gets out on the break

JOAKIM NOAH -- defends and does everything else

Note the coach’s common description. DEFENDS; and this night provided the ultimate proof for a team playing with the passion of their decision and the unity of their purpose. They defended their title. And so once again the Gators stand atop the summit , right back where they came from, earning what they came back for.
