(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 1/1/2003 - 4:26 p.m.) I've been defending Zook all season. I explained away Camp Zook, the no sitting policy, the FSU media blackout, our special team troubles, our O-line, our D-line, the lack of go to receivers, the painful-to-watch offensive scheme, rolling Rex out of the pocket, the pitiful second half performances,...all of it, all year. I even tried to rationalize the failed two-point play today.
However, there is no way to explain why, with the game on the line, a coaching staff takes the ball out of the hands of a veteran quarterback, WHO HAS THROWN FOR OVER 300 YARDS IN THE GAME, and instead opts to have an inexperienced "all-purpose" player, who has yet to show why he was awarded a scholarship, throw a PASS on an ill-conceived reverse, knowing that earlier reverses in the game didn't really fool the opposing team.
I was prepared to accept a loss peacefully up until that horrendous play. Now I am sick to my stomach. I can only hope Zook recruits as advertised because I've run out of reasons to defend him.
