"When I retired to Gainesville in 2002 and Mrs. GB was "

commuting(to Texas) with her consulting gig, I started checking out UF sports other than Men's FB and BB as a diversion.  These young women (UF Volleyball)  and their coaching staff were the most impressive of all and have become a passion for me (lots of health and mortality issues have had me needing to find reasons to get out of bed each day). As a former track person (6'8" in high jump, when that was decent), it amazed me that 5'9" to 6'2"  young women (I'm 6'2") could grab a BB rim (I cut my head on one, but that says as much about my coordination as it does about my jumping skills).  The other skills of this game and our team far exceed anything I could ever have hoped to do. These matches are well attended (2-5,000) but you can get close enough to see the emotion, the skills, the guts ,and the great coaching! These young women love a game with limited chances to make a living in and none to get rich in. They are virtually all great students and student-athletes in the finest sense of the tradition!!  I've had the opportunity to talk to some of these kids and they make me comfortable (despite all propaganda to the contrary) that our future will be finer than fine!!
