In perusing the board yesterday I found an issue that brought me out of the lurker’s proverbial closet. Baptists and RT were disparaged in the same thread. As a Baptist and admirer of RT, I felt it was my duty to form a group. In our FaceBook/MySpace generation, it seemed only right. The original name was Baptists In Support Of RT (BISORT), but the acronym made me uncomfortable so I changed it to Baptists In Support of RT’s Oratory (BISTRO). It’s not a name that would appeal to, or even be understood by most Baptists, and it’s not really oratory, but it’s my organization so those things don't really matter.

In my occasional scanning of the WAB, I’ve learned that RT is a witty and erudite poster, and his theology seems fundamentally sound. However, on his visits to the VS he is not always welcome and may even be considered an infestation. I don’t always appreciate RT’s approach to Gator-baiting, but I wanted to form a group with a cool name and this worked for me.

Membership is not restricted to Baptists, but it does help. Contrary to yesterday’s posts, a Baptist can have a sense of humor and can enjoy a good time. Baptists have proven to be good Gators, although their levels of alcohol consumption occasionally pass the denominationally accepted limit. However, I sense the large majority of our members will come from supporters of RT, which can include Gators, Auburnites (easier than typing all the mascots) and various other members of the VS family. I am counting heavily on Tim Tebow’s support.

Meetings will be held the week before Florida-Auburn football games, so we have a long wait. I convened a meeting this morning realizing that attendance would be somewhat limited given that no one knew about the organization. Unfortunately, only NLMF and I attended (NLMF was there in spirit). Discussion centered on seminar topics for the next meeting, which included:
