Southern Miss, Arizona State or Purdue for teams that match the Gator loss total this year. In fact, within the last 5 years every team in the SEC has had at least one 5 loss season. Also, Nebraska, FSU (with Bowden), Oklahoma (with Stoops), Ohio State, Texas(with Brown), Penn State(with Paterno), USC, and Notre Dame have managed to drop 5 in a season. Michigan(with Carr) and even Miami(with Davis) have had 4 loss seasons during the last 5 years too, yet Miami is on pace to win their second straight title that may well have been a third straight title if not for the BCS screwing them over in 2000. In fact over the last 10 years there are 9 national titles held by those teams and one more will be added tonight no matter who wins. Sometimes 5 loss seasons come your way whether you want to tolerate it or not and it doesn't necessarily mean that the ship has sunk. That is what the OLD people are saying. Age does give one a bit of perspective that no team, no where, is always good. Even Spurrier's 92 and 99 teams were damn lucky to have only 4 losses. This season with a squad that finished 8-5 UF was a play away from playing for the SEC title - a play away from maybe 8-6 or equally possible 9-5 or 10-4 - it was that close. The same can't be said of last year's 10-2 team which was supposed to be one of the best UF teams ever. Losing 5 games 2-3 seasons in a row may be the earmark of a program slipping into mediocrity, losing 5 games once is not.
