"Do you feel the same way about Coach Donovan?"

Is he just another smuck pulling in a paycheck? What a mercenary attitude. I agree only in principle, but would add that while you are legally correct, life is much more than that for 99% of us. FWIW, this was a hard year for us for more than the coaching change. We had a heck of a tough schedule. Add the coaching changes and we met this schedule while only keeping two assistant coaches from last years successful team. We changed out the entire staff and the entire Offense and Defense. Our old offense was VERY DIFFERENT from all other college offenses, wouldn't you agree? So everyone comes back learning a new system, making ALL the players look like rookies at times and all our coaches are still learning how to work together and mold a new system (at times) and get to know each other in all situations needed to be successfull. We lacked depth along both lines. This showed its ugly head in several games when we looked good on the lines in the first half and into the third, only to fall apart. Some SOS and his staff tried to bring in didn't make it past admissions, some left, some got hurt and some have never lived up to their perceived potential. Way too few have panned out. Is this Coach Zook's fault also? Is it? Or was he just responsible for making it all work no matter? We also didn't have a WR step up to compliment Jacobs till past mid season. We had to go to a short passing game, with a bunch of screen passes, or nobody was going to catch the dang ball, what with everybody stacking players against our 1 WR who was playing well. So we're forced to try to run it more and one dimensional teams are easier to defend; and our line is converting from a passing first/passing dominated/abandon the run at crucial times offense. And we didn't have a kicker. Coach Zook didn't bring somebody in during his last recruiting efforts and he probably thought, in all the time he had to evaluate our talent, that we had a kicker who could come in and kick the ball without taking too long to do it. What really chaps my hide is to see the attitude of some fans. You think all you have to do is have your expectations and everything else should take care of itself at that point. You're gonna make us into another Alabama if you don't watch out. There won't be a decent coach in the nation who'll take the dang job if they have to put up with fickle fans with no perception of what it's gonna take to completely remake our program into something that DOESN'T rely upon the genius of Stephen O. Spurrier. And that, my friend, doesn't happen overnight and it doesnt' happen after a few games, or even (dread the thought) after only one season. This is gonna take this season and should show improvement next year and be completing itself in the third year of the transition - and that's if we KEEP Zook and most of his staff intact and he's successfull. Otherwise it becomes a never ending process where the fans take turns eating the new staff till your program looks like a has-been and the only way you can "get it back" is to have cheating boosters all trying to do their part to return you to the glory years. Now you have to ask yourself a question, do you want us to become Alabama?
