"Some Random Observations about the past eight days." |
|
Southern California: For a team that everyone have already anointed as the best ever in the history of college football, they certainly have a hard time proving it. For their last three losses, the opponents combined records have been 19-13 (59%). In fact, with Stanford, I expect that percentage to get lower and lower as the year goes on. Perhaps as abysmal as 19-20 (48%). It could realistically be BELOW .500 To put some perspective on that, the opponents for Florida’s last three losses have been 21-4 (84%). If LSU runs the table and Auburn loses only one more game, to LSU, it could improve to 34-5 (87%). What does that say about the direction of both programs? …speaking of which. LSU (as a program) & the SEC: Back in 2003, there was some controversy about who actually won the National Title. Everyone west of the Mississippi chose to accept USCw rather than the SEC team. Even ESPN was calling USCw a dynasty in just 4 years of actually playing good football again. But if you actually look at the records from 2003 to present, USCw has a record of 52-5 and LSU has a record of 50-8 and plays in a harder conference. So how hard is the SEC? Well, in the past fourteen seasons, it has produced eight teams who were either undefeated or national champions. So why don’t we hear ESPN preaching about dynasties in this conference? Strippers: Most women lack the subtleties of an accomplished striptease ‘artist’. No, they generally lack the more obvious skills too, but it’s the visual innuendo and silky-smooth body mechanics that enables them to mentally link with every guy in the audience. This genuinely supports the phenomenon of sexual precognition and has led many scientists to the conclusion that good strippers will eventually pole-dance the next major step in human evolution. However, this seems to be stunted by the influx of poor-to-average strippers. Maybe the feminist revolution radiated the genomes responsible for knowing what turns on a man. A resistance to this strain or some type of inoculation has been found in certain women as evidenced by good strippers still perfecting their craft in isolated outcrops across the world. My weekly travels across the internet have, for the most part, alleviated some of my concerns, but not completely. So you’re a concerned parent. I understand. You want to know what you can do for the human race. First of all, instruct your daughters on how to properly ride a pole. No hugging of the pole. Wherever that is on your 3x5 note card, take it off. The source of your advice most likely has no taste in anything. He prefers a sloppy McDonald’s cheeseburger to a good 8 oz. filet shipped fresh from Boyne Highlands Farm in Big Sky, Montana, prepared by Chef Vikki in Chicago. He buys his furniture at K-mart. Listen to me. I’ve been obsessing about women for years and years. Ok. Strippers should just leave the whole acrobatic stunts to the circus. I’m not interested in seeing Cirque du Soleil when I want to be turned-on. The pole is analogous to the side rail in a flight of stairs. Its function serves mostly for balance. Spin around it a few times; whip that hair into a frenzy. That’s cool. Actually, that can be real cool. Achieve the positions you can not safely achieve anywhere else on the stage with your high-heels, but… …damn it… I’m not putting twenties into your g-string so I can see you flex your leg muscles like a body-builder. I want to be fixated on getting your phone number, not guessing the ingredients to your steroid cocktail. That comment also goes for the six-pack that many strippers apparently aspire to get. Secondly, only men over eighty like watching a stripper dry-hump a skuzzy floor; maybe desperate men too; maybe men who have to come home to a woman who weighs over 400 lbs. But for the rest of us, there is nothing attractive about seeing a woman get into frog-position and shake the sweat off of her ass and back. If you’re ever fortunate enough to be close to the stage, you’ll note that there is always a foggy, white ‘heat’ footprint underneath her when she gets up. Thirdly, strip-teasing is about anticipation and denial. Skirt goes down an inch, then back up. Down an inch, then back up. Then be creative. If I wanted to see a woman undress as fast as she could, I find that certain contraband is far more effective than just throwing hard-earned money at the problem. LSU (the game): Hobbes once told me that I will grow to love the Auburn loss. Hobbes is wrong. He would have only been right had we actually beat LSU. But the more I thought about it, the more I like our team facing these adversities. USCw is a perfect example. Since 2002, they have lost only six games. And despite their talent, they can be described as underachieving. Same for Texas. Why? It’s just way to easy for them to win with their level of competition. When they win, great. When they lose, throw out another excuse. Maybe they were bored or lazy or sloppy, but they don’t get tougher after any of their losses. If USCw used Oregon St as a wakeup call, they would have never lost to UCLA. The SEC forces its teams to be focused for every game. It makes talented players more focused and hungry. Why do you think there are 8 teams who have gone undefeated or won national championships in the past 14 seasons? By five different teams no less? Because they were forged under fire to be ultra-competitive and mentally tough. Oh God. When did I become a motivational-speaker? Well, at least I'm not thumping the Bible over your heads like some of them folk do. Speaking of which, turn to James 4:16-19. lol Anyway, that’s what our freshmen and sophomores are getting this year. Florida is not a team filled with a bunch of whiny losers. They’re fiercely competitive. What do you think they’ll be thinking about during the off-season? I don’t know about you, but I really like the idea of all these extremely talented freshmen & sophomores pushing themselves over-time for the next 3-4 years to avoid a repeat of the past 8 days. As for the game itself, I’m no genius, but I will say that the Gators played extremely well considering they were in the (quote/unquote) “toughest stadium” in America and at night against the #1 team with one of the best defenses in the past 25 years. If it weren’t for some very unfortunate breaks against us in the 4th quarter, I think we win the game by 17 points. Instead, Moore fumble leads to a score, Tebows INT leads to a score, all in the fourth quarter, and that was the difference. You can’t tell me that Florida didn’t absolutely dominate LSU’s defense. And guess what? They’re the hardest we’ll probably face in the next 3 years. Read that again and realize that we essentially lose NO ONE from this offense for the next 2 years. It became obvious in this game that Mullen/Meyer were TRYING to hold their cards to their vest in the Auburn game so they could unleash against LSU. Kind of sad that they gambled on that game and ended up losing both of them, but it’s a good learning experience. What I found really interesting is how LSU avoided all the mistakes that usually plague them against Florida. They gave up only one turnover and made every one of their 4th down conversions. It was as mistake-free on offense as you could possible get. And I have to give props to Haden and Pouncy. Those two, like someone said on GC earlier today, were getting fitted for Tuxedos for their respective proms less than a year ago and they held their own against the senior competition for the #1 team in America. No doubt in my mind, those two are first-round draft picks in 3-4 years. In a year or two, baring injuries, we could realistically see the following Florida players projected high for All-American status and/or the NFL draft: Tim Tebow, QB Percy Harvin, WR Maurkice Pouncy, OG Joe Haden, CB Major Wright, FS Jermaine Cunningham, DE Brandon Spikes, LB It really wouldn’t surprise me to see any of those players making the 1st round, considering. And that’s leaving guys out whom we KNOW will be good, like Emmanuel Moody, Carlos Dunlap, James Wilson, Justin Trattou, John Brown, Torrey Davis, Deonte Thompson..etc.. The future is extremely bright and from what I’ve heard with recruiting, we are just going to keep the All-Americans coming. Losing to LSU doesn’t hurt our program. It helps it. It sets the bar to our players about what it takes to win a difficult game. |
