Coach Spurrier's press conference before the Gator game this Saturday...

Opening statement:

"Hopefully we'll play a little bit better than we did last Saturday night. Hopefully our guys will put on a good performance.

I CIRCLED THIS GAME 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I TOOK THE JOB. THIS WILL BE OUR BEST GAME OF THE SEASON.

Looking forward to it and see if we can't get back into the win column. Florida is a very good team, as we all know. They've lost three, two very close ones, field goals to LSU and Auburn. Georgia beat them by a little bit, there.

HAHAHAHA, I PWNED GEORGIA YOU LOOSERS.

They have three losses; we have four losses. All of ours have come recently. We need to sort of right our ship and see if we can't play a lot better this week."

On how to start playing better:

"Our defense had played a little better than the offense most of the year until last Saturday night.

OUR DEFENSE IS THE ONLY REASON WE HAVE ANY WINS DURING MY TENURE EXCEPT FOR THAT BOWL WIN OVER MISSOURI BUT I CAN'T RESIST TAKING A SHOT AT THE DEFENSE FOR ALLOWING THE BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE SEC SINCE BO JACKSON TO HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.

I don't know if Arkansas is that great of a running team or if we're that bad. I guess we're going to find out at the end of the season here. We had not been quite that poor against the run. A couple of bad statistics is when your run defense is not very good and your rush offense is not very good. We're down near the bottom in both of those categories right now. Our offense and defense are exactly eighth in the conference. We're sort of a 50/50 team, you could say, as far as who's playing the best. It doesn't really matter. The object is to win the game. If you have to win 9-7 or 51-49, the object is to get more points than the other guy. And we certainly haven't done that the last few weeks.

"Hopefully Emanuel Cook will play. He's our leading tackler. Jasper was our leading tackler last year. We need somebody to help out with the tackling. When E Cook went out the other night, it seems like it got a little worse than what it was."

I'M STILL TALKING ABOUT THE DEFENSE, EVEN THOUGH THE OFFENSE IS JUST AS BAD.

On how important it is to turn around the morale:

"I think the morale is fine. We've been competitive, although we got trampled last week. As I told our guys, our offense had a really, really lousy game against Vanderbilt, and now our defense had its lousy game. We're hoping we regroup and play a lot better. We've played some good teams. We're staying positive around here. Somebody asked me the other day if I was discouraged. I said, `No, I'm not discouraged.

WE PLAY FLORIDA NEXT AND THAT WAS THE ONLY CONTEST I GAME-PLANNED FOR THIS YEAR ANYWAY, BESIDES GEORGIA.

Our big recruiting class was last year, not three years ago.' We've got a lot of players here that we believe are going to be outstanding players. As I've said many times, our best team was not going to be this year.

PLEASE IGNORE THE PRE-GAME VIDEO.

We didn't think it would be. When we were 6-1, I wasn't sitting on the table here saying how great we are.

AT LEAST I WISH I HADN'T.

It sort of all caught up to us here against some good teams. Again, we had a really, really lousy offensive game against Vandy. And really, I haven't been proud of the way our offense has played the last two weeks. We've had some crucial errors at crucial times. We left a lot of points out there against Arkansas. We win and lose as a team, and we haven't done as well lately. But we're going to try to do well on Saturday night.

"We're getting ready to play the Gators. They'll be favored.

I'M THE UNDERDOG! IF WE GET LUCKY AND PULL THIS THING OUT IT'S BECAUSE I OUTCOACHED URBAN.

They have an excellent running game, which we haven't been real super stopping the shotgun giving it to a guy. We'll try some different things than what we tried last week and see if we can't make them throw the ball.

I WATCHED SPARTICUS LATE TUESDAY NIGHT, TOLD MY DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR ABOUT IT AND HE DESIGNED A COMPLETELY NEW, REVOLUTIONARY DEFENSE. IT'S CALLED THE KIRK DOUGLAS LANE ASSIGNMENT PACKAGE, OR KD LANE'S ASS FOR SHORT.

Florida probably has the best-balanced offense in the league. Percy (Harvin), they list him at wide receiver, but they play him at tailback too. He's very talented. Somehow or another, we need to slow them down, and our offense needs to play extremely well if we're going to have a chance."

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO POINT OUT THE OBVIOUS.

On whether Florida QB Tim Tebow is underrated as a passer:

"He's a very good thrower. He doesn't miss many open guys. If they're open, he doesn't fling it five or 10 yards over their head. He hits the guys when they are open. He's made some unbelievable plays when they aren't open, guys hanging all over him. He's the quarterback of today, a guy that can run around, break some tackles and still get some balls off. That's the type of quarterback that everyone's looking for.

IF I HAD A QB YOU'D ALL BE TEACHING YOUR KIDS TO PRAY TO A MURAL OF ME ON THEIR BEDROOM WALL.

"Heath Batchelor hung in there pretty well. Looking back, we wish we would've had him in there sooner. We've given most all of them the chance, and it appears those five are the best we can put out there. Our tackles didn't play all that super last week. Let's don't brag on those tackles much. I think our guys are trying hard. Offensively, we're trying pretty hard. Hopefully we won't get way behind early."

IF I HAD AN OFFENSIVE LINE YOU'D ALL BE TEACHING YOUR KIDS TO PRAY TO A MURAL OF ME ON THEIR BEDROOM WALL.

On only losing four games in a row once before as a college coach:

"I'm not going to quit. I'm not really accustomed to it, but I understand where we are and what the other team looks like. We're coaching as hard as we can, and we'll try our best."

IS THIS COLUMBIA OR TAMPA?

On whether playing Florida is special to him:

"Well, it's a good team. But, the storyline is over, really. I've been here three years, and their coach has been there three years. It's not a story. They did win the national championship last year, and they are the defending conference champs.

THOSE BASTARDS!

It'd be neat to beat them if we could.

I CIRCLED THIS GAME ON MY CALENDER WHEN I TOOK THE JOB 3 YEARS AGO. THIS WILL BE OUR BEST GAME OF THE SEASON.

We haven't beaten them much in the history of our school. What we really need to concern ourselves with is playing the best we can. Play the best you can on every play, and we'll see where the score settles. That's the only thing you can worry about as a coach."

I LIKE TO PROD THE VS'ERS. RINSE, WASH, REPEAT.

On whether a 6-6 team should go to a bowl:

"They went last year, didn't they? I don't know, I didn't think Notre Dame should've gone to those BCS bowls they went to. Don't ask me about fairness in college football.

"Dion Lecorn had an excellent game, catching every thing and running good routes. He proved he could play. At one point, we were going to redshirt him. Sometimes it takes a while to find out who can play. Sometimes it takes the real games to figure it all out. I don't know exactly what he's done. He's coachable. You tell him something, he tries to do it. He's got talent, maybe a bit more talent than we thought. He can catch it and go, makes some yards. He's a good player, likes to play, and a good blocker downfield.

IF I HAD WIDE RECEIVERS YOU'D ALL BE TEACHING YOUR KIDS TO PRAY TO A MURAL OF ME ON THEIR BEDROOM WALL.
