Based upon all the emails I've received, I know many of you have wondered what I've been up to with the Urban Meyer contact thing. Well, time to let the cat out of the bag. I attended a fund raiser a few weeks ago for a young man that's paralyzed for life. You can read the stories below, but the kid was from Florida by way of Sudan. It was mentioned that he was a big Gator fan. So, faced with this challenge, I set out to do something special for this kid. You'll recall the night I tried to get Coach Meyer's email here. Since it wasn't shared, I had to do a lot of digging. Eventually, since I couldn't find it, I tried to contact Jeremy Foley to send it on to Coach Meyer. Well, as you saw yesterday, I got a packet. It contained a media guide, autographed picture and nice note, signed by Coach Meyer. I will be trying to get it to Ify somehow through the teacher at the high school. I was very impressed with everyone I dealt with along the way that helped to make it happen. I new the Coach was very busy getting ready for the bowl game and a move, but they still took the time to make it happen. Alright in my book. Originally from Sudan, Ify moved to Franklin last year from Tampa. His family did not have medical insurance. As a member of the basketball team and a very popular student, the school has had numerous fundraisers to assist. He is facing an uphill battle and needs to get into a rehabilitation hospital in Atlanta. The cost is in the six figures. Other local schools have had fundraisers as well. The benefit dinner was sponsored by the Brentwood High School DCEA.(http://www.wcs.edu/bhs/announce/ify_index.htm) .....The fact that high school kids, rivals at that, would be willing to do so much for this young man was such a powerful story that we decided we had to attend. Kid after kid, they got up in front of a lot of adults and spoke from the heart about how much they cared about this young man and how great it was that people could come out to support such a great cause. Ross Browner gave a very powerful speech about taking back our youth. With all that negative press you read about young kids today this event, organized by teenagers, was an incredible event!I don't know this young man, but I do know during the speeches that one of the kids mentioned Ify was a HUGE Gator fan (having come from Florida). I of course liked it when they said "but we won't hold that against him." ;-) Anyway, here's why I'm writing. It would be a tremendous thing if I could get a letter or email from Coach Meyer to this kid. We know kids that know him and would hand it to them to take to him. (He's in Atlanta doing rehab right now apparently) Anything you could do to facilitate this request would be greatly appreciated. All of my contact info is listed below. Thanks!
