"RE: no one was "right on" by predicting an Ole Miss win" |
|
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT UF took a substantial lead. Ole Miss completed 9 (yes, only 9) passes that game. The problem is UF had 5 fumbles, and the defense had breakdown after breakdown in key 3rd-down situations (i.e., that isn't a problem of UF's offense not attacking). Even with all that, UF scored 30 points and lost because of a blocked extra point (the only one missed all year). Florida basically dominated the line of scrimmage and had about 2X the yardage that afternoon. For someone to predict an Ole Miss victory to be "right on," we would have had to see some sense of competitive advantage from Ole Miss during the game. The Rebs had NOTHING like this (other than falling on the ball after a Gator dropped it without being hit or hit hard). I agree UF's offense was out of sync, and I was never a huge Mullen fan (I was in the "wish we had someone else" crowd). However, Shane's comments about it being a "slap in the face" to be a UF receiver is not good journalistic criticism; that's personal. Maybe it's Shane's passion for the Gators that allows him to get so personal without realizing it, but it's destructive to put such comments over the air rather than leaving such a reaction in-house. While pure homerism in journalism isn't good, neither is being so emotionally bonded to the program that your personal "family" criticisms overtake professional, journalistic judgment. Shane doesn't appear to assess his own situation clearly in this regard. Maybe he should call Jesse Palmer instead to get some help on how to talk about UF in public. |
