Not as a comedian, certainly, but as a screening device.

Plato broke people into 4 categories:  gold, silver, bronze and Larry the Cable Guy fans.  It's very useful to be able to distinguish Larry Cable Guy fans in everyday life.  For instance, if you're hiring for a position and the job requires something akin to thinking, knowing that the applicant went to a Larry the Cable Guy performance will really shorten the interview.

Under the Clinton administration it was proposed to use LCG ticket purchases as a way to register people for special assistance programs.  Civil libertarians killed this proposal, calling it a violation of privacy.  Under the Bush administration it was proposed to use LCG ticket purchases as automatic regestrations to vote in the Republican party.  Civil libertarians killed this proposal, calling it redundant.

Fortunately for the safety and sanity of the rest of us, LCG fans are only too willing to self identify.  That guy in the job interview you should not hire is quite likely to wear a t-shirt with the sleaves cut off bearing a picture of LCG wearing a shirt with the sleaves cut off.  A store clerk spotting someone so attired quickly knows that the shopper will need extra help or, if store only sells items costing more than $20 or which cannot be purchased in installments, directions to the nearest Walmart.

And we all know that any car with a "Get Er Done" bumper sticker warrants a wide berth.  Of course, the driver just thinks he's being cool and showing his sophistication in humor.  But to the rest of us, he is imparting valuable safety information.

Even if Larry the Cable Guy didn't exist, there would be Larry the Cable Guy fans.  They'd just be a lot harder to spot.  So I really like Larry the Cable Guy.
