when her mom and I split up....I went through a tough time. Finding myself suddenly alone in an apartment, feeling estranged and missing my family, my then 10 year old daughter made it a point to call me every single night that she wasn't with me to say good night and I love you. No one told her to do it but she would not go to sleep until she told me goodnight. It might not seem like much, but it meant everything to me and I will always point to that when I think about how I made it through the darkest period. She kept me grounded and focused on what was important.
