CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT The day he was introduced he said he was going to sing Rocky Top all night long after the Vols beat UF on 9/19. Not some day, not eventually, but now - this year. That put the target on his back. He called out the national champs and said in essence that either our team was so weak and poorly coached or that he was just so #badword#ing awesome and brilliant that he could take a 5-7 squad and come into the Swamp and kick our ass and then rub our nose in it. That in of itself was enough to make him public enemy #1 in Gatorland.
Everything after that has been pretty much gravy, from the Pahokee stuff to the USC recruit slam to the secondary violations, to the insults to other coaches and their staffs. Although for UF fans the cheating remark ensured that win or lose he will never be seen in any light other than that of a buffoon, a loud mouthed #badword# who doesn't even know what he's talking about. At that point we dropped the rotten tomatoes and picked up rocks to aim at that target he drew on himself. It's kind of nice he did this. Our home schedule is not that enticing. Maybe Arkansas steps up a bit and makes a run at UF, but it will tough for them. FSU - can't see it, but we will get loud and hope to score 50. Vandy, FIU, Troy and Charleston Southern? Please. Even UT was going to be hard to get up for. Until Lane opened his mouth and made that game the biggest one on our home schedule. Tip of the hat to Coach Kiffin for injecting some excitment into that otherwise mundane home schedule.
If Vol fans think Gators are being hard in their comments about Lane now they ought to wait and see how the game on 9/19 goes. We're not seriously looking for an 80 point win. We know even the worst team in the SEC can get up for a game and give the best team a challenge. But if Lane comes in here and doesn't keep the Vols within 21 points or so the Gator fans are going to verbally crucify him and throw every one of his comments back across cyberspace in heretofore unheard of levels of disdain and derision. He will be the court jester of the SEC, the clown prince of football and UF fans will make sure to mention that fact at every opportunity in every venue available. He damn well better win and win NOW or every recruit is going to hear long and loud about how Kiffin is all talk and no walk. A poser without a clue. Beat Florida and there are going to be some very humble Gators backtracking and making excuses and some will just shut up and go away. But lose to Florida and their will be a reign of hell over the next 365 days presided by arrogant Gators loaded for Vol that will make the last four years look like a Summer day at the lake. He has called down the thunder. Now he'll either take control of it through winning or be destroyed by it through losing. I know where I'd put my money.
