"They don't get it because Lane still doesn't get it."

CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN:
END OF CONTEXT

Hey, Lane, let me explain.

You can talk about wanting to beat the Gators and stomp their eggs. That's smack talk.

You can say you look forward to singing Rocky Top all night long after you beat Florida (hahahahha!). That's smack talk.

You can lay down all the smack talk you want. We expect and rather enjoy smack talk. You might be better served to do it after you have actually won a few games, but really, it's your prerogative to lay down all the smack talk you want.

But, you #badword#ing moron, you don't accuse someone of cheating EVER unless you have evidence to back it up!

You can't accuse someone of cheating and then call it a joke. You can't accuse someone of cheating and say you were doing it to "fire up" your boosters. You can't accuse someone of cheating unless you plan to turn them in for it.

When you accuse someone of cheating, you aren't saying that your players are better or that your offensive schemes are better or that your fans are better. You are challenging that person's integrity. You are, potentially, causing that person all kinds of problems if anyone takes your accusations seriously. You are crossing a line that should never, ever be crossed.

I know you're young and all, so maybe you don't remember, but you're talking about the coach of a school that has in its history--somewhat recent history, I might add--NCAA violations and subsequent probation that set the program back light years. The school has since gone to extreme measures to clean things up to the point of being downright squeaky clean. So, yeah, in addition to whatever innate touchiness the Gators may sport, unfounded accusations of cheating are going to bring about a rather different response than simple smack talk.

Oh, and when you do let something like that slip, and you need to issue an apology, let me give you a tip. Don't say "if I offended anyone at the University of Florida, I apologize." I can assure you that when someone is publicly accused of cheating, they will be offended. When you apologize, you are supposed to sound sorry for what you did. You might try saying something like this: "I was absolutely wrong to say that Coach Urban Meyer had cheated. He did not, and I should not have said that, even in jest. Urban Meyer runs a clean program, and I was out of line for saying otherwise. I extend my sincere apologies to Coach Meyer for insulting his integrity, to the entire University of Florida for any concerns I caused, and to my own university and to the rest of the SEC for the embarrassment I caused. I'm very sorry." THAT is an apology.

Keep talking all the smack you want. Fire up your players and boosters with that smack all you want. But learn to tell the difference between smack talk and accusations. It really isn't that hard.
