That part about "perceived" arrogance and UF being nouveau rich is closely connected. It's true Florida didn't win any "official" championships until '91, but we were nearly always one of the most competitive teams in the SEC. But the rest of the league continuously belittled the Gators, and fans grew to resent it as the years wore on. Disrespect will do that to you. So when SOS got us over the hump and did so with shameless beat downs, it wasn't just being arrogant or cocky. It was retribution (hello dawgs!) for the years and years of disrespect (ever heard of another team having their SECC stripped after-the-fact? And led by a bunch of schools who were just as guilty at the time) and frustration. So the hell with y'all Gator haters. It feels damn good to kick sand in your face and, if you have to get used to it, then it's because you earned it.
