CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT even found its way although not on purpose and certainly not by choice into a book about the passion of SEC football entitled "Bragging Rights". I am convinced that the author of said book went trolling around some message boards when doing his research and found where I had posted Dad's reaction before and decided that such was a perfect example of how deep the emotions can run. The book recounted how after watching the you-know-who to you-know-who td pass to win the '80 game for UGA, a 1952 Florida graduate after an obligatory cussing session went out on his back patio and threw every piece of patio furniture in the pool.
Well I'm here to tell you that my Father (RIP) was a 1952 graduate of UF and after the play did exactly that. Well not exactly that. It wasn't really a cussing session like the book tells. Rather, he sat in stunned silence for about 30 seconds and then finally said, "You have got to be f'ing kidding me"? While my Father was no prude, it was the first of only a handful of times I ever heard him drop an f-bomb but if a situation ever called for one, that was it. After that, he calmly walked into the backyard to the pool deck and then threw every piece of patio furniture in the pool.
God Bless You Dad and thanks for taking me to my first Gator game with you in 1977 against the Dawgs, a 22-17 Gator win. It will always be my favorite game because I was there with you. I know you'll be on row 1 up in Heaven com Saturday. Here's to all patio furniture belonging to fellow Gators staying put this Saturday.
