"My Tim Tebow Story"

Edited by Author at 11/1/2009 - 2:17 p.m.
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN:
END OF CONTEXT

When we arrived with the Gators to the stadium on Friday for their walk through, I was met by a gentleman who asked me if his 10 year old son could get close enough to see Tim Tebow get off the bus. I told the young man (Kris) to come with me and we watched as his heroes exited the team buses. Kris was obviously excited as he watched the players move toward the field but when he saw Tebow he was awestruck.

I asked Kris if he would like to walk out onto the field and watch the Gators practice and his eyes grew big as saucers. We walked through the tunnel and entered the stadium and soon Kris was standing on the same turf as TIM TEBOW. Kris stood fixated watching Spikes, Jenkins, Demps and all of the other Gators buzzing through their drills. While the young stargazer watched practice I spoke with Officer Freitas (Tim's escort for the past four years in Jacksonville) and Officer P.T. Williams (Tim's Little League baseball coach) and told them that I would like to give Kris a moment he would never forget. I asked them to ask Tim if he would toss the football to Kris a couple of times. Tim did much more than that.

Tebow walked up to Kris and introduced hmself and asked Kris if he would like to run a few patterns. Tim then proceeded to run out onto the very field he would break Hershel Walker's record on the next day and played catch with a wide eyed kid for the next 10 minutes. I don't know who got the bigger kick from this genuine display of caring by Tebow, Kris or the officers gathered around watching.

After playing catch, Tebow & Kris had their photo taken, autographed Kris's hat and also gave Kris an autographed Gator football! As Kris and I left the stadium I heard him tell his mom that he was never going to wash his hat :-)

Tim Tebow is a fabulous football player but his football talents can't match his compassion for other people. Tim gave us all a special moment that day and for me I will always remember him as a person as much as the thrills he has given us on the football field.

Players use to care about the name on the front of the jersey but now they only care about the name on the back of it.
