CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT Gator Bowl to subsidize Bowden's farewell game
(Associated Press) -- 6-6 FSU was given a free pass this week when the non-BCS Gator Bowl decided to pit the 6-loss Noles against 9-3 West Virginia on Jan. 1. The move has created a tidal wave of criticism and laughter throughout America.
"We realize that hosting a team with 6 losses from the weak ACC is a huge embarrassment for our city, but we felt Bobby deserves a big send off. We're giving away 30,000 free tickets so we expect at least 33,000 fans to attend. Besides, we can never hope to get the Florida Gators because they always go to a BCS bowl with a payout in the tens of millions," said GB chairman, Tommy Tushy.
Unlike 6-6 Notre Dame which turned down a bowl invitation due to the disgrace it brings, the Noles jumped at the chance to show America that a team with 6 losses and an 80-year-old coach who wears ridiculous hats deserves a chance to humilate itself for the 7th time this season.
Rumors are that a surprise halftime show will feature former Nole has been, Burt Reynolds who will present Bowden with keys to the Leon County Convalescent Center. Also expected is a grand entrance by "coach still in waiting" Jim Boo Fisher who will be riding bareback atop the school's bi-sexual nag, Renegade, aka Ole Glue, while hoisting high the famous Seminole Spirit Spear made of flubber.
"We expect there won't be a dry eye in the house when Bobby leaves the field after his defense allows yet another 500 plus yards. What a fitting way to honor a man whose hats have set fashion back 50 years," Tushy said. |
