I can tell you about 20-25% of the population of the continent will never support us no matter what we do or don't do. There was a great quote I saw a while back it went like this...... "Envy is a worm which never sleeps. Its the reason the French are nasty to us, the Germans treat us with hostility, the Jews hate us, and the British regard us as an enemy." It was written by a Spanish soldier in the 16th century. It could just as easily have been written by a Roman 2000 years ago or a Briton in the 19th century or an American now. European countries are (comparatively) weak. We are strong. Anytime we exercise our power it reminds them of their own impotence and makes them feel humiliated. Therefore, they hate any American president willing to exercise American power and will do anything they can to hamstring us. Envy and their massive inferiority complex also explain their condescending attitudes about the "cultural inferiority" of the US and their statements about being "more civilized". I would accord them genuine respect if their disagreements with us were principaled-the US isn't always right. Sadly, its not. Many over there will oppose us no matter what (France will always do this) not because they are our friends genuinely trying to help us, but because they are weak and envious of our strength.
