But today, just a couple of last blows on the trumpet, if I may.

Have I told you about my alma mater’s unparalleled crop of stronger, faster and smarter recruits? Of the delectable meal I’ve last prepared and the rare spices I’ve accumulated from whence its sublime yet intense flavor was imparted?

Of the girth of the great striped fish I caught last spring from the rocky bottom of an abandoned lake? Of the speed with which my cellular telephone negotiates the world-wide web and the sites I’ve therefore so speedily discovered for the betterment of my fellow man?

Of my proficiency at Sego’s latest armed warfare game? At the trip I took to the islands at great cost and the panoramic view from my flat while there?

Of the perfect slope of my Labrador retriever’s hind quarters? Of the number of interesting and difficult books I’ve read in the past year?

Of the promises kept by my candidate and the lies which have been told by yours? Of the accuracy of my thoughtful predictions as to the health, familial responsibilities and personal motives of our coach?

Of how cold the air is on my back deck and how much colder it is than the air on your back deck? Of the depth of my intellect, the keenness of my sense of humor, the vagaries of my wondrous day to day existence?

Of the people I know or will have the chance to meet simply by walking outside my antique arts and crafts style front door and simply being me?

Yes, today, I have much wisdom for you. But only for today.

For in the morning, it will be humility for me. Today, for one last day, I shall blow my trumpet until even my own youngish, perfectly preserved lungs grow tired of the passage of my lemon grass sweetened breath.
