CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT As someone who has worked with Danny over the years without sharing many of his beliefs, I can assure you that Danny's approach is quite different. He has clear goals and he understands the need to be honest about his motivations without alienating people in positions to help him reach his goals. Danny is very, very savvy in his communication and relationships with people who don't share his religious beliefs but share many of his values and his drive to help people less fortunate. I have seen him in action, and it is always clear that his beliefs are what drives him to do what he does, but he does not judge others about their motivations to help.
Tim has seemed to follow this path, as well. He has attracted many to his message because he never seemed to judge them, only love them and wish them God's blessings. That is what has made his appeal span far beyond those who share his faith. That is how he has gained such influence beyond his football accomplishments. Tim isn't concerned with reaching those who already share his beliefs. His goals are to reach those who don't and help them change. He has been extraordinarily successful at this so far.
Tim has made Christianity appealing to people who had never considered it so. One reason that those same people thought Christianity was unappealing before was because of organizations like Focus on the Family that act to condemn and belittle those who don't share their beliefs. By aligning himself with an organization that may very well share his religious beliefs, but that uses tactics that are judgmental and alienating to many, his sphere of influence with the people he most wants to reach may very well shrink considerably. I think this is what others have tried to say here.
Tim is about leading by example, showing what a life well lived looks like, and reaching out to others who are curious about how they, too, can live that kind of life. He is about forgiveness and acceptance and kindness. Focus on the Family is about telling others how they should lead their lives and condemning those who don't fit their criteria for a life well lived. Their messages, although both rooted in deep religious convictions could not be more different.
I can certainly see how aligning with Tim Tebow would be of significant benefit to the goals of Focus on the Family. I just don't see how aligning with Focus on the Family will further Tim's cause.
