A lot of you may not be Nelson fans. I'm not one of them. Brett Nelson along with Billy D built this program. You may recall that Brett committed to Billy when Billy was still at Marshall and Brett was a hotshot as a sophomore in high school. Brett was making quite a name for himself at the high school and AAU level. He was the next Jason Williams, without the off court problems. Other superstars wanted to play with Brett. Guys like Teddy Dupay and Mike Miller, even though they were a year older and already freshman at UF. Guys like Donnell Harvey, Matt Bonner and Justin Hamilton who were in the same class as Brett. Top recruits saw what Brett did in high school and as a freshman and sophomore and saw what Billy was building and wanted to be a part of that success. Brett may not have turned out to be the player that we all thought he would be, but he was one of the guys this program was built on. Some of you may not like him now, but let's not forget what he has meant to this program and the way it was built. Matt Bonner and Justin Hamilton may not have been as heralded as Brett was coming out of high school, and mean more to this team right now, but let's not forget all the contributions Brett made to this program. So from this Gator fan, thank you for everything Brett. You may not have lived up to our expectations, but you will be remembered as a cornerstone of this program. You're OK in my book.
