"Tough questions..."

Do I think every school cheats? Absolutely not. Do I think there are individuals at most schools who cheat? Probably so. I can only speak in particulars about UF . . . I can say with some authority that UF goes to great lengths to prevent and/or catch the kind of stuff happening at UGA, Minnesota, etc. I cannot imagine what more a compliance office could do, short of 24-hour surveillance, than what Jamie McCloskey and his staff do. There are what seems to be a never-ending string of compliance meetings, checks, seminars, etc. They are extremely proactive. Tutors must attend compliance reviews every semester. They go through all sorts of checks and sign their life away promising that they understand and agree to comply with NCAA rules. Anything that seems like it could maybe be interpreted as a violation of any sort triggers a rash of more meetings, checks, etc. I do believe that the academic fraud issue at UGA (coach "teaching" his own players) could never, ever happen at UF. Our academic advisors would never register their students for a course that could cause them trouble like that. Despite all this, do individuals at UF do things they shouldn't? Probably. Will UF be subject to any "lack of institutional control" sanctions if anyone does something and gets caught? Not a chance. As I said, I cannot imagine a school taking more precautions than UF. Even the NCAA recognizes that a school cannot control every action by every person who has any contact with their campus or their students. As for Billy Donovan . . . I know few, if any, people with more integrity than Billy Donovan. He is one of the finest human beings I have ever met, and he his upbringing taught him that hard work is the way to accomplish his goals. He has an amazing work ethic, and he is not one to take short cuts. He is competitive, but he knows the rules. He will not do anything outside of those rules. His competitors who speak ill of him (e.g., Harrick, Fogler) just can't believe that he accomplishes all he does through hard work. They don't have the same drive and energy that he does, so they can't imagine achieving at that level without cheating. I think that says a lot more about them than it says about him.
