"I am a dedicated free-market capitalist" |
|
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT but this is one area where the free market fails some people. Dumping people for preexisting conditions makes good business sense because an insurer is certain to lose money. Businesses are not charities and I defend the right of a company to seek a profit. But this is where the government needs to step in and defend people that are vulnerable. In THIS country, nobody should be without medical care. This is something that needed to be done. From an economic standpoint, this bill is terrible. Not only will it eventually add to the deficit but it will also cause health insurance premiums to explode for the rest of us that have jobs with benefits. The cost-cutting measures are weak at best, probably because, let's face it, the people who wrote it were concerned about the social aspect of the bill. That's ok with me because the financial side can be fixed down the road. If Republicans were truly fiscally conservative (which they are not in spite of the rhetoric) they could have tackled this issue already and put together something that made sense. Now they need to STFU about repealing it and go to work actually doing something positive - like coming up with some ideas to improve the cost effectiveness of the bill while maintaining the key social aspects. |
