"catering to the ignorant" |
|
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT I think both parties try to spread disdain toward the other party for recruiting support of ignorant fools using the typical mindless fodder that gets ignorant fools to vote. I just want to say for the record that both parties cater to the ignorant. The evidence is all around, but let me give you a case in point that is seen on every Main Street in just about every city and town in the USA, for every politcal race and every politcal party. My case in point is people standing on sidewalks with campaign signs. What exactly is the intended outcome for someone standing on the side of the road waving a sign at me that just has a picture of a candidate, the candidate's name, and some very short little slogan? I'll tell you the intent -- the intent is to get someone who is undecided or otherwise not inclined, to go vote for that candidate. Is it effective? Darn right it is! If you need further proof of what is effective at swaying the opions of ignorant fools, you need look no further than your TV. Those TV ads are effective at convincing people to buy the advertised product. I mean, look at them! There are tons of ads that cater to the ignorant. And they work. Campaign signs operate on the same principle. So don't let me see you every suggest that your party doesn't cater to the ignorant, because we've all seen every party do it in organized and effective ways. And if you'd allow me to continue my little rant... Let me tell you right here and now -- anyone and everyone who is swayed to vote for a particular candidate because they saw a campaign sign doesn't have the intelligence to deserve to vote. I abhor this practice of catering to the dolts who would be swayed to vote based on yahoos holding campaign signs on the side of the road. In fact, I have shown my own signs around election times that say "If a sign sways your vote, you shouldn't be voting. Stay home!" I would carry out a large campaign with such signs, but alas, nobody actually wants to support such a campaign. It appears this must just remain a pet peeve.
