My thoughts:
-I remember sitting in Louis' restaurant just prior to last year's Homecoming parade. James White had just left the team and I was talking with friends about how bad this basketball season would be. I bemoaned the fact that we had NO inside game and we would not be a good team this year. I'm glad I was wrong.
-I remember watching the Gators beat that cry-baby Roy Williams' Kansas Jayhawks in Madison Square Garden.
-I remember somehow losing to West Virginia.
-I remember sitting in the Comcast Center and watching the Gators hand defending national champ Maryland their first non-conference home defeat in 12 years.
-I remember coming back in the second half and beating the home standing MSU Bulldogs going away.
-I remember South Carolina's last second shot bounce off the rim and the Gators winning the game.
-I remember Anthony Robeson hitting a fall away 3 pointer at the buzzer to beat Georgia.
-I remember all the sports TV shows leading off with Robeson's shot and calling it the play of the day.
-I remember Matt Walsh going coast-to-coast and dishing an unbelievable pass to David Lee who slammed it home.
-I remember Dick Vitale going on and on about how tough it for a visiting team to play in the O'Dome.
-I remember being ranked #1 in the nation.
-I remember winning $80 in Vegas when the Gators covered the 11.5 against South Carolina.
-I remember the Gators showing tremendous heart in nearly coming back and beating Kentucky in the last regular season game of the year.
-I remember a limping Matt Bonner playing his heart out in that Kentucky game.
-I remember David Lee stepping up and being a force in the middle.
-I remember the unselfish play of Justin Hamilton.
-I remember losing in the first round of the SEC tournament.
-I remember Anthony Robeson hitting three straight 3-pointers against Sam Houston State and wishing he could save a couple of the same for the next game.
-I remember the Michigan State game.
But most of all I remember Gator basketball of old. The years were an NIT win over TCU was celebrated as one of the greatest moments in UF basketball history. I remember Don Devoe. I remember dreading reading the paper in the morning in fear of seeing the letters DEA attached to a Gator basketball headline. I remember seeing tons of empty seats in the O'Dome during SEC games. I remember how easy it was for me to get a ticket to the UF/UK game in 1986.
Yesterday stunk. We are better than that, but I remember it wasn't too long ago we were a whole lot worse.
