"My whole thing is that quite frankly ever since about the mid 90’s or so…." |
|
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT The drive home after Gator games listening to callers has with some exceptions turned into one big bitch and whine fest. Play calling was bad…why don’t we throw to the tight end more…why don’t we blitz more…why don’t we run Moody more because I’m dying to say Moooooooooooooody after a 3 yard gain….Why can’t we ever cover the spread….blah, blah, blah, freaking blah.
Since when did football season in Gator Country become the most cherished time of year to the most intolerant time of year. I mean some people have gotten so out of touch with reality it isn’t even funny. I mean some fans I over hear at games literally can’t understand why UF doesn’t score on every play and similarly how on earth the other team ever does. Honestly. To those same people the game to them is nothing more than a time to put on their hat, shirt, and have a 3 hour whine session about coaching decisions and lousy players. As if their attitude is, “I put on this awesome tailgate party for me and all my peeps, so the least you players and coaches can do is play to absolute perfection and make my day enjoyable. No dude, winning isn’t enough. You better cover cuz I got some mucho bucks ridin’ on this one.”
Honestly, I’m not above complaining when it is warranted and yes there were enough things that went on last week to make one gnash their teeth quite a bit, myself included. That said, the amount of complaining about winning from either the young Gator fans or Johnny Come Lately Gator fans needs to be muted or turned down a bit and no, it shouldn’t have to be muted or quelled by covering the spread for you. It should be muted or quelled by you getting a healthy dose of perspective and realizing that a) winning isn’t your birthright because you’re a Gator fan b) covering the spread every week isn’t the goal, winning the game is and c) as hard as it is to believe, they actually give out scholarships at other schools too.
If any choose to take the above personally, then have at it. It isn’t directed at any one individual but rather to the above fan described of whom sadly there are thousands and very vocal. Taking the above personally only identifies yourself as one such fan. |
