Forty years of watching upstart underdogs start out with 3 or 4 or 5 wins to begin their SEC schedule, only to see it inevitably, invariably, catch up with them. Decades of watching a team eke out a proud win over a top Bama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU type team, only to have an empty tank the very next week and fall to a supposedly inferior Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi type team.
It's called Schedule Fatigue, and it's real. And if your team plays in the WAC, MAC, MWC et al, you will never, you can never, know what it's like to have to go out there and get up every week instead of once or twice, and to do it before 90,000 crazy rival fans instead of 65,000 neutral site locals.
Neither you nor i know for a fact, as you love to say, that a watermelon would smash into bits if dropped out of a 5th-floor window onto pavement, do we? Hell, the damn thing might bounce! But knowing what i know about watermelons, and basic physics, and pavement....
