It's a gatorpower geek cliché: “only a social retard and bastard collects, in plain view, multiple debts from different debtors at the same time.” Growing up you think the scenario is cool; walk into a room, use your clout, your intelligence, and savvy to skim favors from everyone within earshot; reaching your ends; feeling like a god.
Failing to find a connection?
There is a natural psychology in politics that favors people who are seen as completely moderate; not seen as weak; not seen as invincible. People listen and want to understand the views and positions of moderate people. If you go off to far in either direction (weak vs. invincible), people will become deaf to everything you say. They’ll do this out of either bitterness, if they think you’re better than them, or haughtiness, if they think you’re significantly weaker. And you seriously do NOT want the world to put our justifications (for war, conflicts, issues), evidences, opinions, and public relations on mute because if they’re not listening to us, then they are listening to someone else.
Going to war with a nation is like collecting a debt they owe you. The reason for that debt may be genuine, a breach in contract, retribution, .et al, but it is not politically wise to collect too many at a time. Your debtors will see you as being excessively greedy, ego-driven, or doing it to humiliate and degrade them publicly, to throw around your power and influence.
In this climate, it would not be wise to start a campaign against countries in the middle east unless you want our other alleys to start referring to our plans as nothing more than world domination.
