"Even though I was only able to listen on the radio, this win brought back memories "

CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN:
END OF CONTEXT

of some other big wins for Gators basketball:

1989- when UF finally, finally! won its first SEC championship.  Very fitting that big Dwayne Schintzius was back in the O'Dome last week for the first time since his playing days.  Who can forget him, Double D Dwayne Davis, Renaldo Garcia, Livingston Chatman, and Clifford Lett?  Who can forget the tennis balls raining down in Nashville and Schintzius crushing the Commoders in OT to keep the dream alive? Who can forget beating Chris Jackson to clinch the crown?

Tonight also reminded me of 2001:  Senior Night:  Brent Nelson and Major Parker.  Gators needed a win over Kentucky to pull into a tie for conference co-champ status, and did it.  I was there for this one.  I remember Albert and Alberta marching onto the court afterwards with a big crown and scepter, and the seniors taking turns having a seat in the throne as SEC champs, battling through injuries and the defections of guys early to the NBA.

And finally, tonight reminded me of 2005, when a group of sometimes maligned players, viewed as underachievers, accomplished something for the UF record books-- wining the Gators first SEC Tournament title-- David Lee, Anthony Roberson, and Matt Walsh.  Sweet redemption.

 thanks 2011 seniors!
