We love to focus on the history and art majors in the group. But what about those who earned business, law or medical degrees? What about those who went into debt to fund advanced technical degrees?

And what about the fact that most professional degrees prevent students from working their first year; and some for the entire program? That is why you won't see to many professionals holding signs like the one posted above on facebook. I commend that student for his/her work ethic. I had a similar experience with my undergraduate degree. But the game changed when I went to graduate school.

Are we an America that truly provides manifest destiny? Or ... do we limit educational opportunities to only those who can afford them?

More and more this country is turning into something it originally fought against. A nation where a select few aristocrats control our body politic and limit upward mobility for those who are not in their ranks.

Another thing that gets lost in all of this is the fact that higher education might be the last great American industry. We still have the world's best institutes for higher learning. Something to consider the next time you hear a politician promote educational cuts.
