"My man crush on Tebow has been completely refreshed." |
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT Rooting for him at Florida was a given. Further, he set the bar so high so early (made crucial plays as a true freshman in very limited playing time; won the Heisman as a true sophomore in his first year as a starter) that it was impossible not to have high expectations of him. He was recruited into a very specific system at UF, one geared to his style of play (and due to his talent, few if any others can come close to matching). The NFL is a different animal though. He didn't have any control over who drafted him, so he had no control over what offensive system he would get drafted into. Then the guy who drafted him gets terminated. The coaches start him just as much or more out of pressure from the fans. The coaches at first run their usual offense, and Tebow struggles. But Tebow shows enough of what he can do to at least get the coaches to run some plays geared specifically for him. And Tebow does enough to win. It's brushed off by everyone. Then he does it again. And again. And again. His effort, strength, leadership, and will to win completely win over his teammates. There's no grandstanding. No showboating. There's just Tebow being the great guy Tebow is. The only stat he cares about is wins. He's been winning "ugly" his whole life. He's been doubted, even ridiculed, every step of the way. He can't succeed the way he plays, many have said. But they're all wrong. Tebow is a player. A baller. He is THE guy you want with the ball in his hands to win a game. If only he could outrun defensive ends! LOL! If only he could outrun linebackers! LOL! The safeties in the NFL are much bigger and faster than safeties in college! LOL! It's really too precious. Maybe, just maybe, none of these guys have had to face a guy like Tebow. Maybe they're the ones unprepared for such a player, a 245-lb. guy who moves like he's much lighter. A guy who loves to put his shoulders down and deliver hits. And lo and behold, just as in college, he's far bigger and tougher than the safeties and cornerbacks of the NFL. I loved the one play in the last drive of the Jets game where he was running along the sidelines and a corner or safety was several yards in front of him. There wasn't even a thought of stepping out of bounds. Without hesitation, he put his shoulders down, accelerated, and knocked the guy backwards. Then on his TD run he first made the blitzing defender miss, then he easily ran through an arm tackle. Do you think these guys really want to try to tackle Tebow any more than the guys in college did? My guess is that they're even less motivated. Their livelihoods are on the line. Many will continue to diss away. Go right ahead. Tebow believes. His teammates believe. Now even his head coach believes. There's no going back to the prototypical offense now. Fox would rightly be ridiculed if he did so. Tebow's back where he belongs. Starting, succeeding, everyone talking about him. And none of it going to his head. He just wants to win. Seriously, how can you not love the guy? |
