Was there any offensive statistic that set these 34 teams apart from the 83 teams that did not win at least 9 games.
Of the 34 teams, 29 of them ran the ball for a better yards per carry than what their defense gave up per carry. The most dominating temas on the line of scrimmage as far as running the ball and stopping the run were Kansas St, Penn St, Iowa and TCU. Kansas St averaged 5.24 yards per carry and only allowed 2.03 yards per carry on defense (+3.21). Only 9 teams averaged 1.5 yards per carry more on offense than they allowed on defense- Ohio St, Miami, West Vir, Arkansas, and Alabama in addition to the 4 teams listed above. Nebraska the poster boy for running the ball and stopping the run was +1.46. Florida averaged 3.81 per carry and gave up 4.03 on defense (-.22). Of the 34 teams only Virginia could be said to have a swiss cheese defense against the run.
In the passing game, Florida finished #20 in yards per game. The other stats are not as good. Florida was #38 in pass completion, tied for #23 in the number of INTs thrown, #68 in the percentage of pass attempts that were intercepted, #68 in yards per pass attempt, and #82 in yards per pass completion. UF was #8 in passes attempted and #12 in pass completions.
16 teams averaged over 8 yards per attempt, 12 of those teams won 9 or more games. Florida was 6.81
17 teams completed 60% of the passes or more but only 9 of those teams won at least 9 games. Florida was at 57.06
There were, however, 27 teams that threw at least 18 interceptions last year. Only 1 of those 27 teams won 9 games or more- that was Hawaii who had 731 attempts. 36 teams threw at least 16 INTs and only 2 won 9 or more games. Florida threw 18 INTs. Miami threw 13, FSU and UGA 10, and Ohio St 7.
