You are absolutely right of course.
Too bad GOP dogma portrays such people as leacherous boils on the buttocks of "the productive class."
The argument has been made repeatedly that our economy has annihilated the livable middle-income, working-class wages that used to be the backbone of our country. And as often that point is made it is summarily dismissed as pathetic jealousy of the rich.
Which is exactly the problem - rather than recognize this as the severe problem that it is, the modern GOP has taken a "tough (stuff), buddy, it's up to you to get education and improve yourself" approach for decades now. It's refreshing to see this abrupt 180 concerning the place for those with only a high school diploma in the workforce, but a bit late to undo the massacre that has been visited upon the livable working-class wage in the interim.
