"What always bothered me was the air of entitlement they had"

Message Replied To ==========

In fairness to fsu, there is some truth to the statement of stymied growth due to UF...

But, they seriously need to get their big boy panties on...what the hell do they think the State of Florida's one and only true flagship university was going to do...welcome them with open arms to step up to the big time plate to share in the $$$...???...no matter how deluded they may believe, there is no basis whatsoever in any state in this country that ANY university welcomes and assists another in-state school to advance and thus giving up some of the $$$ they receive...you can hear this arguement and allegation in a lot of states around the country...

Every school in every states knows that there is ALWAYS limited $$$ coming from their legislature(s)...sorry nolies, but there is no logic whatsoever that indicates UF should ever take less so fsu can have some...and just to be clear here...we ain't talking football either...all of the oppositions around the country are primarily rooted in ACADEMICS...standing by quietly while $$$ is sent to ANY state school for ANY purpose just doesn't happen...whether that $$$ is for academics or athletics...UF has been, is now, and will always be looking out for UF...end of story...

It is notable that there is one side at fsu that wants to stay in the ACC simply because they believe they can run the table every year and have a sure path to the title game(s) as conference champs...same logic when they had the so called "historic" run of the past...they foolishly believe they were that great and it had little to do with such a weak conference...but now the debt comes a calling...reaping that which they so gleefully sowed...even now they continue to assess their likelihood of going 12 - 0 this year; always with the understanding they are the football kings in a basketball conference...yeah, 12 - 0 in a wussie conference...

Another side has slowly realized what they have gotten themselves into...times have changed...big $$$ has gotten bigger...and now they put forth the arguement that without getting more $$$ then fsu will fall further behind...

Having said all that, I do believe fsu is likely testing the waters...even if no communication has yet happened between fsu and Big 12 admins, simply having stories like this leak out shows the Big 12 their interests...one thing different with the Big 12 vs the SEC is that the SEC is NOT going to reach out to ANY school first, the school will have to approach the SEC...however, the Big 12 needs more teams, and with that need comes perhaps more of a willingness to reach out...in the end, fsu and the Big 12 will at the very least have cursory discussions...

If you are fsu (God forbid) then you realize the boat you now find yourself in and if necessary, you MUST initiate discussions...if you sit on your arrogant pride with the Big 12, you are very possibly making a very poor long term decision...Speitman, get your hat in your hand ASAP...and get ready for Texas and Oklahoma to play you like the cheap fiddle you are...

On a good note though, I suppose the nolies can take some comfort in knowing that they FINALLY have achieved a bit of basketball success that they claimed over 30 years ago was a prime reason to go with the ACC...congrats...I guess...

Newsflash!  UF does not "owe" it to you to do anything for you just because it happens to be in the same state.  UF doesn't owe it to you to give you money from the state budget (especially early on when UF was way bigger), UF doesn't owe it to you to help you get this or that grant/college/certification, etc and UF doesn't owe it to you to give you a game if it doesn't want to.

Nobody gave us a damned thing.

"Boo hoo hoo, we had to travel and play anyone anywhere (ie on the road) to build our program." says fsu?  Yeah?  Well we played Alabama in Alabama 11 out of the first 15 times we played them, We played Tennessee in Tennessee 6 out of the first 9 times we played them, we played away vs UGA a few extra times in the first few games, we played Auburn in Alabama 5 out of the first 7 times we played them, We played Ga Tech in Georgia 6 of the first 8 times we played them.  That had a lot to do with our crappy early records against those teams.  Do you hear Gators whining about that?  No.  Sucks but that's the way it is and the price you pay to build up your program.

I could go on about how the state of Florida had academic restrictions that no other state in the SEC area had and that we were not on an equal footing with others in the SEC regarding the athletes we could bring in until NINETEEN SEVENTY.....ie THIRTY SEVEN YEARS after the founding of the SEC.  I could mention that we couldn't go to the state government and whine that big brother wasn't giving us a hand up because there was nobody else.

So UF didn't go out of its way to make the path easier for fsu?  Cry me a freakin' river.

"I yet believe that the maintenance of the rights and authority reserved to the states and to the people, not only essential to the adjustment and balance of the general system, but the safeguard to the continuance of a free government. I consider it as the chief source of stability to our political system, whereas the consolidation of the states into one vast republic, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of that ruin which has overwhelmed all those that have preceded it."
