Message Replied To ========== 70 years ago..........The tide started to turn in the Pacific. Battle of Midway 4 Jap aircraft carriers sunk to one American. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Midway He was a fighter pilot in VMF 221 and 13 of the 26 pilots in his squadron were killed. 9 were wounded. They were vastly outmatched in both equipment and numbers by the Japanese. He and three other pilots survived intact. My dad died in 1980 and he never once mentioned that he was on Midway. We only found out about years later when a cousin of mine who is a military historian read about my Dad in a book on Midway. |
