No topic has ever been forbidden here if that is what people want to talk about.  The most important posting day for many people in the history of this board had nothing to do with sports or UF.

Politics, religion and other sensitive issues tend to cause heated exchanges and can really fill the main page - where some people who only want to talk about UF sports hang out - so Mud thought it best to provide a separate page for those discussions for a variety of reasons, several of the most noteworthy of which are:  to keep the main board more civil in tone, to allow sports-centric people to read the main board with a minimum effort of skipping over threads they don't care about, and to prevent the board from scrolling too fast so that some discussions get missed. 

Being as upwards of 50 people post on the Lounge I think it is useful and an indication that a large part of this community finds it beneficial. How its absence would make the main board better escapes me.
