1.  Open the checkbook (which they're already doing).

2.  Self-impose the death penalty on the football program for a minimum of five years.  All players to be allowed to transfer without having to sit out a year, or stay and have their scholarship honored if they so choose.  And if they won't do shut down the program on their own, the NCAA needs to do it for them, TV contracts be damned.

This isn't lack of institutional control - this was a cover-up resulting in horrific consequences to innocents that makes SMU's institutional transgressions look puny in comparison.  And Spanier, Curley and Schultz all need to go to jail.  I've previously thought some posts here have been unduly harsh on Paterno, but his apparent involvement in Curley's change of heart re: how to deal with the Sandusky situation changes my perspective on that considerably.  And this is all probably going to get worse when the Freeh investigation results are released.
