"RE: band geeks"

Message Replied To ==========

band geeks

I'm trying to put something together on the history of the Pride of the Sunshine and have some cool pics that go back to the 30's when it was founded.  Any of y'all have any pics or links or stories or anything I could include?

==============================

I do not have any pictures, but I would be very interested in whatever you put together on the POS. I was in the Gator band (trumpet) in 1945-46, and again after a couple of years in service when I returned in the fall of '48. I got to know Col. Bachman very well, and I was very close to Reid Poole, Bachman's assistant and later chair of the music Department. I did several arrangements and original numbers for Reid as he put together the Gator Variety Band (the predecessor of all the jazz programs at UF) in the 1950s. Many good memories with all of that.
