"I won't be eating Chick-Fil-A today....."

Edited by Author at 8/1/2012 - 3:06 p.m.

It was too hot to walk that far from my office and I don't choose who to do business with based on religious or political beliefs. I will eat Chick-Fil-A again. I will eat there again because they provide good product and service at a good value. That's how I make my business decisions.

I recently read Let My People Go Surfing by the founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard. See link. It's a good read but it is loaded with all sorts of anti-business rhetoric which I couldn't disagree with more. Patagonia also gives a substantial portion of their profits to environmentalist groups that I'm sure in turn support politicians I completely disagree with. I will still gladly buy Patagonia gear for its quality and comfort.

The Cathys are already billionaires and up there in age. Their fortune was created in large part thanks to remaining true to their mission and values which align with the supposedly controversial statements on marriage. Does anyone think they are going to hurt them by not eating there? You may slightly hurt the franchisors. Some of whom might be gay for all we know. The Cathys meanwhile will probably get thousands of atta-boys from all their like minded friends and associates.

If liberals want to hurt Chick-Fil-A, go raise the capital, open up a chicken restaurant, and make a better sandwich at a better price. That will hurt Chick-Fil-A. You make Gay-Fil-A chicken and it's better. Then me and millions of others will give up Chick-Fil-A and eat there. That's how business works. Business decisions by and large are made by cost and value. That's what makes sense. I may be somewhat partial to some businesses based on mutual beliefs, but at the end of the day value dictates my buying decisions. Buying or not buying- at Chick-Fil-A or anywhere else- based strictly on politics or religion is freaking stupid in my book. I eat at gay owned Flying Biscuit Cafe more often than Chick-Fil-A. They make better food!
